JoostJoost is software with a system for distributing TV shows, movies, and other forms of video over the web. Joost uses a peer-to-peer TV technology. The technology was created by the founders of Skype of Kazaa. Joost delivers near-TV resolution. Joost turns a PC instantly into an on-demand TV. Features include news updates, discussion forums, show ratings, and chat rooms linked to streams.

VLC Media Player

VLCVLC media player is free media player software developed by the VideoLAN project.

VLC is a lightweight multimedia player, an encoder, and a streamer that supports many video and audio codecs, file formats, DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols as well.

VLC is a highly platform-independent player that has versions available for Windows, Mac OS X, BeOS, BSD, Linux, Windows CE, and Solaris.

VLC’s interface is very basic but supports skins through the skins2 interface, Winamp 2, and XMMS skins.

VLC is a popular choice for its ability to play incomplete, damaged, or unfinished video downloads.

Orb MyCasting

Orb MyCasting is totally free and allows you to turn your computer into your own personal broadcasting system. Orb is a neat little application!

Once you install the small, fast Orb software, you can use any web-enabled media player that has streaming capabilities to play whatever media you desire.

Orb MyCasting, in a nutshell, easily allows you to broadcast your media to devices like a Nintendo Wii, Mobile Phone, PDA, Laptop, etc.

SopCast

SopCast is a free program for watching TV stations, watching movies, and even listening to audio. SopCast employs Peer-to-Peer technology and allows users to broadcast their own stations as well.

PPMate

PPMate is a free program for Windows for watching online TV programs. It requires Windows Media Player 9. I can’t say too much about it as it seems to be mostly Asian programming and in a foreign language. If you have a good or bad experience with the program, please share a comment!

JLC’s Internet TV

JLC’s Internet TV is a free program that gives you free access to thousands of TV channels. The database of channels available through JLC’s Internet TV is huge; there are a ton of free channels to watch.

Users of JLC’s Internet TV are able to rate, flag, and even submit channels. The flagging and rating system help users sort out the bogus channels quickly and easily.

The only real requirement for JLC’s Internet TV is Windows Media Player and the setup download weighs in at less than 1 Mb. For some streams, you will be required to have Real Player installed as well.
